KANPUR: The first phase of the ongoing campus placement drive at IIT-Kanpur has been a successful affair. A total of 650 out of 950 registered students have been placed in MNCs and globally renowned companies till now.
While some have been offered salary package of upto Rs 1.10 crores, others were offered a package between Rs 30 to Rs 75 lakhs.
The number is expected to rise up to 700 by the end of first phase of the placement drive, which ends on December 22. This year saw a rise in the number of students getting placed in foreign countries. According to the placement incharge of IIT-Kanpur, Prof Vimal Kumar, this year more number of students will be working offshore than last year.
With many countries forming strict visa rules, the companies prefer training students in different countries and then permanently placing them.
Kumar said that while some of the companies impart training to their new employees in Australia but they are asked to re-locate to USA for their job. He further informed that by the end of the placement drive, around 700 students would have gotten their offer letters.
He added that in first 10 days, 510 students were placed while in the last few days, no company has recruited students in bulk. E-commerce company, Flipkart, hired 40 students, the highest number up till now. Kumar also said that the defence research and development organisation and C-DAC have held interviews and group discussions and the result will be declared in January, 2014. Moreover, the final tally of the recruitment drive of first phase will also be made available in the same month.
